The trumpet is a brass instrument commonly used in classical and jazz ensembles. The trumpet group ranges from the piccolo trumpet - with the highest register in the brass family - to the bass trumpet, pitched one octave below the standard B♭ or C trumpet.
Owen is currently Principal Trumpet with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
In his early 20’s, Owen has had extensive orchestral experience including performing as guest principal trumpet with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. In 2015 Owen was appointed the inaugural trumpet fellowship position with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Owen enjoys performing concertos regularly with orchestras and bands across the country and internationally. Some of these experiences include performing concertos with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Youth Orchestra, Adelaide Wind Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Sinfonia and Seraphim Trio.
Owen performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the Sydney Youth Orchestra on their 2017 International Tour to Europe. As a chamber musician, Owen frequently works with some of the countries finest small ensembles including the Australian Brass Quintet, Omega Ensemble and Sydney Brass.
He has also toured as guest artist with the Seraphim Trio. In 2013 Owen became a founding member of Bennelong Brass, who have toured extensively throughout Italy, as well as putting on their own concerts in Sydney and regional New South Wales.
